This summer Seaside is holding its 45th annual beach run. This has been a part of Seaside’s history since 1966. Scheduled for Saturday, July 16th, the course will begin and end at 12th avenue. All of the activities will take place on the sand, honoring the beauty of Seaside. Numerous activities will be held, such as a 5k and 10k beach run, timed and non timed 5k walks on the prom and a free kids sand dash and treasure hunt. Sunset Family Fitness will be hosting a small awards ceremony and picnic lunch following the beach run. It’s great that the community offers such an awesome event that promotes fitness.
Living so near to the ocean its a shame not to take advantage of the opportunity for a beach run. It’s a peaceful way to enjoy a running experience and take advantage of our beautiful scenery, but there are also excellent benefits from a beach run, as opposed to just running on asphalt or trails. It will definitely make you a stronger runner. Running on sand, dry sand more specifically, is a lot tougher than running on pavement, you’ll be working a lot harder. Benefits of a beach run though, you can always dive in the water after your exhausting sprint.
If this is your first time for a beach run, try to start on wet sand. Slowly incorporate the dry sand. Stick to flat ground, and don’t expect to run at your usual pace. On a beach run, the sand will slow you down. It will take a while to build up your speed, running on sand is harder than running on a treadmill or pavement.
If you are into running and enjoyed the beach run you might also enjoy some of the cross fit classes offered at the Seaside Jiu Jitsu Academy. You will meet other friendly outgoing people with a common interest; in getting in shape. Take advantage of the 30 Day Free Trial. The sun’s shining and its time for a beach run right now!
